Obituary

Jack E. Dalton, 85, died December 12, 2013 at Presbyterian Manor of the Plains in Dodge City. He was born on March 18, 1928 in Sedan, the son of John W. and Frances (Ewalt) Dalton.

Jack was raised in Sedan, graduating from Sedan High School. He began his college education at Baker University, transferring to the University of Kansas where he received his Bachelor's Degree in 1950. Jack then attended the University of Kansas School of Law, graduating in 1953. On June 4, 1950, he married Janol Lee Shannon in Sedan. She survives. Jack served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Dalton was an accomplished attorney, civic leader, and community activist. He was also a devout Jayhawk, devoted husband, father, granddad, great granddad, and brother as well as an author, scuba diver, and golfer.

He was a member of the Kansas Bar Association from 1953 to the present, serving as president from 1976-1977. Jack was also a member of the First United Methodist Church, Chamber of Commerce, and St. Bernard Lodge of Kansas Free Masons all of Dodge City.

Jack is survived by his wife, Janol Lee Dalton of the home; one daughter, Mary Shultz and husband Jim of Lawrence; two sons, John Shane Dalton and wife Sue of Thornton, Colorado and Ross Dalton and wife Ellen of Atlanta, Georgia; one sister Helen Call and husband Everett (Ray) of Emporia; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Dodge City on Monday, December 16, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Lance Carrithers presiding. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Circle of Hope or the American Parkinson's Disease Association in care of Swaim Funeral Home - 1901 Sixth Ave - Dodge City, KS 67801.
