Montezuma - Jacquelin J. Borth was born on October 29, 1937 in McPherson, to Homer and Irene (Stucky) Kaufman. On October 27, 2022, just two days short of her 85th birthday, she departed this world for her next journey.
Jackie's childhood was spent in McPherson, where she graduated from McPherson High School. On June 5, 1955, she married Jack Borth in McPherson. They later divorced. After her sons were older, Jackie decided to further her education, first by attending Dodge City Community College and then St. Mary of the Plains College, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. Jackie taught English, journalism, and photography at Ensign High School and Montezuma High School. In 1980, she bought Borth Agency in Montezuma which she owned and operated until her retirement in 2017.
Jackie was a world traveler. Together with her three sisters, they traveled to 13 countries, China, Thailand, India, Nepal, Canada, Egypt, Peru, Argentina, Cuba, Morocco, Italy, Mexico and the Bahamas. She also took a "Kaufman Women's Trip" every year from 1987 to 2016 with her cousins and aunt, including a trip to the 2009 Presidential Inauguration of Barack Obama in 2009. Jackie also river rafted, quilted, loved working in her flower garden, and cared for many cats. Her boys, Jeff, Jim, and Joel, were her pride and joy.
She is survived by her three sons, Jeff, Joel, and Jim all of Montezuma; three sisters, Dixie Kaufman of Alexandria, Virginia, Carol Kaufman of Wimberly, Texas, and Bonnie Wells and husband, Kim of Lawrence; grandson, Taylor Wiebener and wife Natalie of Kingston, Oklahoma; and three great grandchildren. Jackie was preceded in death by her parents.
Jackie's sons are hosting a celebration of her life on February 18, 2023 at 11:30 AM at the Montezuma Community Center – 508 W Sunnyside – Montezuma, Kansas. Please join them for a time of stories and food in honoring Jackie, casual attire is requested. Memorials are suggested to the Gray County EMS, Ford County Humane Society, or Finney County Humane Society in care of Swaim Funeral Chapel - PO Box 421 - Montezuma, Kansas 67867.
