Ensign - Jacqueline "Jackie" M. Carter, 77, died November 25, 2012 at Trinity Manor Nursing Home in Dodge City. She was born on October 29, 1935 in East Meadow, New York, the daughter of John and Mary (Maerz) Jehle.

She married Wilmer "Will" Carter on November 9, 1952 in East Meadow, New York. He preceded her in death on April 30, 2000. Jackie worked at Kirby Meat in Dodge City for several years before retiring. She also served as mayor of Ensign for a few years.

Jackie was a member of the Ensign United Methodist Church and a Ladies Bowling League.

Mrs. Carter is survived by two sons, David Carter of Ensign and Mark Carter of Protection; one sister, Elizabeth Meade of Long Island, New York; eight grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, John.

Graveside service will be held at the Ensign Cemetery on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Dick Robbins presiding. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home in Dodge City on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to the Jackie Carter Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.
