Obituary

Dodge City - Jaima Ann Olivarez, 82, passed peacefully with her family by her side on July 25, 2024 at her home in Dodge City. She was born on December 9, 1941 at St. Anthony Hospital in Dodge City, KS. She was the daughter of Michael and Katherine (Rumbach) Weilert, and Stepmother Rosa (Wasinger) Weilert .

A lifelong Dodge City resident, she attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and St. Mary of the Plains Academy. At the age of 15 she went to Oklahoma City to join the Carmelite Convent. But God had other plans for her and she returned home. Shortly thereafter she met the love of her life. On November 26, 1960 she married Tony Olivarez, Jr. They had 11 children and they were very proud of their large family. He preceded her in death on April 17, 1986.

Jaima held many roles throughout her life, the first was working at Southwestern Bell as a telephone operator. Once her husband passed, she worked in food service at Dodge City Middle School to provide for her family. She was also a cook at the Ford County Sheriff's Office. After retirement she volunteered at the First Presbyterian church cooking for the soup kitchen. But her most cherished role was that of being a mother and homemaker.

She was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Dodge City. She was a devout Catholic and attended daily mass and Bible study for many years. She also spent much of her time volunteering with church festivals, serving as a Eucharist Minister, making home visits to homebound parishioners and assisting with funeral dinners.

Jaima had many hobbies over the years which included: crocheting, ceramics, making and decorating wedding and other special cakes and making rosaries to name a few. She enjoyed watching sports, especially KU Basketball and K.C. Chiefs. She cherished the time she had with her husband, especially their date nights where they would go out dancing.

She was also passionate about giving to charities and helping the poor. Jaima always welcomed people into her home with loving arms no matter who they were. She was a very good hostess and always made sure that people had plenty to eat. She took great pride in being a homemaker and keeping a clean house. Jaima was an amazing cook and is known for making great homemade food. Especially her family's German recipes and fried chicken for Sunday family dinners and many, many tortillas.

Jaima was a devoted wife and loved her children and grandchildren. She was the happiest when she was able to spend time with her family. She had an incredible sense of humor and could make everybody laugh.

Jaima's memory will be cherished and kept alive by her children, Ronald and wife Mendy Olivarez, Michael Olivarez, Paul Olivarez, Larry Olivarez, Jaime Olivarez, Christina Olivarez and husband Bo Preston, Lisa Lovgren and husband Bart, John Olivarez, Catherine Heredia and husband Jeremiah, Daniel Olivarez, Anita Mercado and husband Charles; 25 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren with one more on the way; and four sisters, Wilma Hall, Mary Perkins and husband Jim, Rose Lehman, and Ruth Baird. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three brothers, Cyril Weilert, William Conrad Weilert and infant brother, William Edward Weilert and a sister, Bennah Barbara Hull.
