James H. Freeland, 82, died Sunday, February 14, 2010 at his home in Dodge City, KS. He was born on October 25, 1927 at Kingman, KS the son of Henry and Beth (Baldwin) Freeland.

Mr. Freeland grew up in Wichita and graduated from Wichita State University with a degree in Business. Jim entered the Navy at the age of 17 and served his country during World War II. He also played football for the Navy and for Wichita State University. Jim married Nancy Boroughs on May 5, 1967 in Wichita; she survives. Jim and Nancy enjoyed traveling through out the United States and they also enjoyed collecting antiques. He worked as a V.P. for Pet Inc. in Wichita and later moved to Dodge City. Jim enjoyed bowling in his spare time. He will be lovingly remembered as a gentle man and a gentleman by his family and friends.

He was a member of First Church of God in Dodge City.

James is survived by his wife, Nancy Freeland of Dodge City; three daughters, Debra Shortledge of Kansas City, Missy Carroll of Phoenix, Arizona, and Teresa Angrelo of Santa Barbara, California; two step daughters, Joni Chow and husband Willie of Dodge City and Jamie James of Phoenix, Arizona. He is also survived by five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and two sisters.

Memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday February 16, 2010 at the First Church of God with Rev. Darrell Hendrickson presiding. There will be no visitation as it was Mr. Freeland's wishes to donate his body to the University of Kansas Medical Center for research.
