James Graves, 63, passed away on August 2, 2026, in Dodge City, Kansas.

James Graves was born on January 2, 1963 in Goldsboro, North Carolina, to Brigitta Boggess.He was adopted and raised by his grandparents. He attended school in several different places due to his grandparents moving often. Eventually, he ended up back in Dodge City for his senior year and graduated from DCHS in 1981. After graduation James worked at JAG Construction for 4 years, then attended college for a year in 1985. He started at Hyplains Beef May 5, 1985. Upon leaving National Beef he worked as a maintenance man for an apartment complex. But most of all he loved messing with bicycles and collecting stuff. He also loved to go fishing in his spare time. On July 2, 1988, he married Charlene Robertson. They were married 29 years. In 2017 they divorced but remained friends. Together they had one son, Dustin Lyle Graves. After they divorved he met his best friend Marlene Thomas and they have been together for the last 8 years. He enjoyed going fishing in his spare time. 

James is survived by his companion, Marlene Thomas of Dodge City, Son, Dustin Graves of Spearville. Mother, Brigitta Boggess of Exeter, California. Ex-wife, Charlene Konda and husband Mike of Spearville and her family.

Memorial service will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026 at 10:00 AM at Swaim Funeral Chapel in Dodge City. Inurnment will follow the service at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. The family would like to invite everyone to a gathering following the graveside service at the cemetery.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place.
