James Groff, 77, passed away on May 12, 2026, at the Kansas Soldier's Home in Fort Dodge. He was born on January 29, 1949 in Hays, Kansas, to Albert and Deloris (Dawson) Groff.

James is originally from Stockton, Kansas. He joined the Army and fought two years in Vietnam. James was a purple heart recipient. After his discharge, he moved to Hays and married Linda Lee Walker on March 2, 1991 in Plainville. She preceded him in death.

He enjoyed fishing and going to casinos.

James is survived by children, Jamie Marie, Cora, and Millie Jo; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; siblings, Alberta Rogers, Regina Fahl (Donnie), Becky Gerhardt, Gary Groff, and Ron Groff (Danelle); as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife; parents; and siblings, Mary Katherine Gilbert, and Victor and Robert Groff.
