Dodge City - James C. Kelsey, 80, died November 14, 2013 at Trinity Manor Nursing Home, Dodge City. He was born on July 6, 1933 at Jetmore, the son of Cecil and Irene (Beck) Kelsey.
James grew up in Jetmore and attended schools there and graduated from Jetmore High School. On June 14, 1952 he married Helen M. Seidl in Dodge City. James worked for Centel Corporation Power Company as a line foreman and retired after 40 years. He had a passion for horses and participated in rodeo for awhile. He was also an avid outdoorsman enjoying especially hunting and fishing.
He was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe of Dodge City.
James is survived by his daughter, JoAnn Banister, Derby; a grandson, Andrew Banister and wife Lorna of Phoenix, Arizona; a granddaughter Casi Nelson and husband Nick of Andover; a great grandson Jack Banister and a great granddaughter Alex Nelson; two sisters, Darlene Smith of Jetmore and Marilyn Portlock of Houston, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen on December 28, 1997 and a son Patrick Kelsey on October 5, 1973.
Vigil Service will be held at 7 P.M. on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City. Funeral Mass will be held at Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Dodge City on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. with Rev. Ted Skalsky celebrating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 from Noon to 5:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 19, 2013. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Catholic Social Services of Dodge City in care of the funeral home.
