Obituary

Dodge City - James "Jim" P. Phillips, 82, died October 6, 2023 at his home with his four loving children at his side in Dodge City. He was born on April 24, 1941 at Jetmore, the son of Cleo and Anna Loraine (Dunn) Phillips.

Jim was born in Jetmore and worked on a farm in the area. He attended both Jetmore and Dodge City schools. He joined the Army in 1958; he served in the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1964 after serving two terms. In September of 1964 he married Linda Lewis in Dodge City. Jim worked at HyPlains Dressed Beef for 18 years. In 1985 Jim and his family relocated to Garden City where he accepted a position as a USDA meat inspector. After 33 years, Jim retired in 2011. He and Linda moved back to their hometown of Dodge City and enjoyed traveling together and watching his favorite TV shows. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, and bowling.

Jim is survived by his three daughters, Terry Phillips of Dodge City, Phyllis Schaller and husband Rodney of Wichita, and Mary Ann Stice and husband Darrel of Sun City, AZ; a son, Jimmy Phillips of Dodge City; 12 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren; a brother, Ed Phillips and wife Twila of Dodge City; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Linda; his parents; three brothers; four sisters; and two nephews.

Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Kirk Larson presiding.  Burial will follow at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery in Ft. Dodge with military honors by the KANG Honor Guard and the SWKS Veterans Honor Guard.  Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 from noon to 8PM with family receiving friends from 5-7PM.  Memorials are suggested to Wreaths Across America for Ft.
