Dodge City - James Oliver Slagle, 86, died February 19, 2018 at Kansas Soldiers Home at Ft. Dodge.  He was born on April 25, 1931 at Clinton, Oklahoma the son of  Eugene and  Minnie (Harrelson) Slagle.

He married Rose Lee Koontz on July 7, 1955 in Dodge City, she preceded him in death on December 4, 2017. He worked as a brakeman for Santa Fe Railroad for several years before retiring. Mr. Slagle enjoyed traveling, fishing, and spending time with his granddaughters.

He was a member of the Howard Gotschall V.F.W. Post #1714 in Dodge City.

He is survived by one son Scott Slagle and wife Margie of Katy, Texas; two daughters Shelley Macaluso of St. Helens, Oregon; Susan Slagle of Dodge City; three granddaughters Kami Michelle Banko and husband Drew Lexington Park, Maryland; Lauren Nicole Macaluso of Portland, Oregon; Jenna Christine DeBonis and husband Chris of Katy, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial graveside service with full military rites by Howard Gotschall V.F.W. Post #1714 and KSARNG Military Honors will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery on Saturday March 10, 2018 at 11:00 AM with Mr. Jeff  Hiers presiding. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice in care of the funeral home.
