Obituary

Jan RaNae (Poppe) Eaton, 48, died Thursday, January 14, 2010 at Western Plains Medical Complex at Dodge City, KS. She was born on November 4, 1961 at Dodge City, the daughter of Clyde and Shirley Poppe and Beth (Rexford) Acoya.

Jan graduated from Montezuma High School. She then obtained a para-legal degree. Jan had a master's degree in education and taught in several area schools. On August 17, 2001, she married Craig L. Eaton in Dodge City. He preceded her in death on December 20, 2004. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and was an avid reader.

She was a member of the Kansas Teacher's Association.

Jan is survived by her father, Clyde Poppe and wife Shirley of Montezuma; her mother, Beth Acoya of Santa Fe, New Mexico; five sisters, Gina Unruh and husband Todd of Cimarron, Lisa Lamberth and husband Cal of Cimarron, Lyn Briggs and husband Derek of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Shannon Thomas and husband Chris of Green River, Wyoming, and Tara Mowry and husband Vince of St. George; two brothers, Darin Poppe of Santa Fe, New Mexico and Michael Lund of Santa Fe, New Mexico; and grandparents, Chester and Nadine Rexford of Montezuma. She is also survived by 15 nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Bill and Dorothy Poppe.

Memorial service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City, on Monday, January 18, 2010 at 10:00 AM with Minister Richard Koehn presiding. Inurnment will be at a later date in Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City. There will be no public visitation as cremation has taken place.
