Colorado Springs - M. Jane Fowler-Verhoeff, 95, passed away peacefully on July 3rd, 2021 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was born on February 4th, 1926, in Emporia, the third daughter of Clark and Elizabeth Naomi (Stolfus) Fowler.
Jane's parents moved from Emporia to Cedar Cliff Ranch in Southeastern Colorado when she was a child, and she spent much of her early childhood there. During the Depression years, the family lived in Great Bend and Dodge City. Jane graduated from Dodge City Senior High School in 1946, and returned to Lamar, Colorado where she graduated from Lamar Junior College in 1951. Jane married Edwin Verhoeff at Lamar, Colorado on August 26, 1951. They moved to Dodge City in 1953. She furthered her education at Emporia State University where she graduated in 1964.
Jane taught elementary school in the Dodge City area, including Howell, for several years. She also worked as a Licensed Mental Health Technician at Larned State Hospital before returning to Dodge City to work at the Kansas Soldiers Home at Fort Dodge. She retired in 1990.
Jane was a member of First Christian Church, the Win-A-Couple Sunday School Class, Keenagers, Swing Shift Circle, The Order of the Eastern Star, The White Shrine of Jerusalem, Senior Friends, New Horizons Club and the Ford County Republican Women.
Jane is survived by her daughter Elizabeth Ann (Betsy) Verhoeff of Dodge City and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Donald and Joe; and three sisters, Betty Fowler, Barbara Lamborn and Marianna Keller.
Graveside service will be held at Fairmount Cemetery in Lamar, Colorado on Monday, July 12, 2021 at 11:00 AM MST.
