Janet Ruth (Ford) Maurer, 85, died July 3, 2018 at the Long Term Care Center in Minneola, KS. She was born on February 2 1933 in Wilburton, KS to Walter C. and Ruth A. (Turner) Ford.
Her childhood homes were in Elkhart, Protection (she played the Base Drum in Marching Band and ran the phone switchboard after school) and Dodge City, KS. She graduated from Dodge City High School in 1951. On September 14, 1952, she married Larry J. Maurer at the United Methodist Church in Dodge City. They moved to California in 1958 for Larry's career.
Janet worked as a bank teller in Seal Beach, CA. Then went to Cypress College in Cypress CA, where she got her AA in Accounting. She then worked at Arrowhead Products in Los Alamitos. CA in payroll.
Janet became each daughter's Girl Scout Troupe Leader, and later became a line dance instructor. She was a weekly Bridge player and a wonderful hostess.
After 51 years in California, Larry and Janet returned to Dodge City in 2009, residing at Trinity Manor. In 2011, they relocated to the Morton County Senior Living in Elkhart. After the death of her husband she was transferred to Minneola to be closer to family members.
Janet is survived by her three daughters, Judy Price of Oceanside, CA, Cheryl Jeffers of Wichita, KS and Kathleen Buchmiller and her husband Dennis of Thousand Oaks, CA; her sister Phyllis Newell and her husband Robert of Dodge City, KS; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Ruth Ford; her husband Larry J. Maurer; one brother, Warren C. Ford; and granddaughter Jennifer Rose Stanford.
Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel in Dodge City on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Jerre Nolte presiding. Burial will follow at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery in Fort Dodge. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel in Dodge City on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
