Dodge City - Janie Marie Lloyd, 84, died June 20, 2018 at her home near Dodge City. She was born on February 8, 1934 at Baca County, Colorado the daughter of Louis and Bertie (Thornton) Durham.
Janie married Vernon C. Lloyd on August 17, 1951 in Meade. She worked as a dispatcher for Ford County Fire Department under John Nail and Otto Walters, where she became an EMT, working in the ambulance during the Saturday night races in the park. Janie owned Flowers and Things in Jetmore before retiring and wintering in Harlingen, Texas.
Once her grandson's started playing sports they returned to Dodge City so they could watch them in all their sporting events. Janie loved camping at the lake and cooking over the fire. Her greatest joy was her family and pets. She was always up for a game of cards, marbles, and domino's.
Janie is survived by her children, Vernon "Skip" Lloyd, Jr and wife Debbie of Wright, David Lloyd of Smith Center, and Bev Hertel and husband Dennis of Dodge City. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren, Shea Lynn Cook of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Tessa Lloyd of Norman, Oklahoma, Amber Lloyd of Great Bend, April Grandclair of Hoisington, Cody "CJ" Lloyd of Henderson, Nevada, Caleb Hertel of Dodge City, Travis Lloyd, stationed in Jacksonville, Florida, and Chance Hertel of Dodge City; seven great grandchildren; three sisters, Geneva Alexander and Wanda Alexander both of Satanta, and Lana Parthemer of Frankfort; and numerous nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vernon; two brothers, Vernon Louis and Earl; and a beloved grandson. Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Monday June 25, 2018 at 10:30 AM with Barney Korbelik presiding. Burial will follow at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery at Ft. Dodge. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Sunday June 24, 2018 from Noon to 6:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to Ford County Humane Society or Pet Miracle Network both in care of the funeral home.
