J. B. Glassco, 73, died Sunday, June 21, 2009 at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City, after complications from back surgery. He was born on September 17, 1935 on the family farm near Copeland, the son of Jay Bird and Lucille (Emons) Glassco.
He grew up in Copeland, graduating from Copeland High School in 1953. On June 15, 1958, he married Frances Jacques in Montezuma. She preceded him in death on April 12, 1999. J.B. married Teri (Hawkins) Powers on June 4, 2005 in Montezuma. She survives.
In 1956, he started working at Unruh-Foster, Inc. of Montezuma where he later became a partner. He retired from the dealership in 1996. He was also part owner at Harry's Machine Shop of Dodge City and Prairieland Partners of Kansas. He loved riding his motorcycles, golfing, flying and being with his friends and family. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather and will be missed by his family and friends.
J.B. was a member of the United Methodist Church of Montezuma and also served on the UMC Administrative Council. He belonged to the Dodge City Country Club and was on the Board of Trustees at the Presbyterian Manor of the Plains.
He is survived by his wife, Teri Glassco of Dodge City; one son, Scott Glassco and wife Natalie of Montezuma, one daughter, Shannon Moore and husband Doug of Montezuma; one
step daughter, Nicole Ott and husband Ryan of Wichita; two step sons, Nick Powers and future wife Shannon of Manhattan and Nathan Powers of Dodge City; two sisters, Yvonne Robertson of Ulysses and Valetta Snyder of Dodge City; and father-in-law, Edwin Jacques of Dodge City, and seven grandchildren. In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Dodge City on Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Jerry Odle presiding. Friends may sign the book from noon to 8:00 P.M. at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City on Tuesday, June 23, 2009. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 PM.
