DODGE CITY – Jeffrey D. Lopp, 76, died December 27, 2023 at Dodge City, KS. He was born on November 18, 1947 at Dodge City, the son of Bill J. and Phyllis E. (Jones) Lopp.
A lifelong resident of Dodge City he graduated from Dodge City High School. Jeff served in the US Army as a drill sergeant. He attended Dodge City Community College and Emporia State University. Jeff owned and operated Lopp Motors in Dodge City for many years and won the 2006 TIME Magazine Quality Dealer Award for Business Achievement and Community Service. He enjoyed spending time with his family at their cabin at Cedar Bluff Lake. Jeff loved hunting, fishing and NASCAR races. He spent many years coaching youth sports and being involved in not only his son's and grandchildren's lives, but was also invested in the lives of many Dodge City youth. Jeff was able to throw the first pitch at a KC Royals game - a great accomplishment for not only him but for his family who were there to support him.
He was very generous and supported several organizations including the Salvation Army and was a longtime sponsor of the Dodge City Roundup Rodeo. Jeff served as president of the South Shore Cedar Bluff Lake Association for over 20 years and was active in the Chamber of Commerce where he once served on the Board of Directors.
Jeff is survived by his companion, Mary Lou Rist of Dodge City; son, Jeffrey Lopp of Dodge City, son, Brandon Rist of McPherson, and son, Aaron Rist and wife Mckinzie of Enumclaw, Washington; seven grandchildren, Riley, Raegan, Raemie, Dakota, Fallon, Harper and Barrett; and great grandson, Kash. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial service will be held at Dodge City Church of the Nazarene on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 10:30 AM with Mr. Jeff Hiers presiding. There will be no public visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Prairie in care of the funeral home.
