Obituary

Jennie Fern Wiswell, lovingly known as "Grandma" to nearly everyone who met her, entered Heaven's gates at 11:37 a.m. on February 23, 2026 at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. She was 90 years old. Her spirit departed this earth surrounded by family, sent off with prayer and singing - just as she had lived, in faith and in love.

The daughter of Minister Ed Frank and Elizabeth (Unruh) Frank, Jennie was born on August 22, 1935, on the family farm. From an early age, she learned the value of hard work by milking cows, doing daily chores, and sharing a small bedroom with her four sisters on two full-size beds that barely fit in the room. These early years shaped her strong work ethic and humble spirit. She developed a deep love for God and spent her life living out that faith through love and service to others.

Jennie married the love of her life, Darrell Wiswell, on January 3, 1956, when they eloped to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Together they lived in southwest Kansas, Missouri, Colorado, Texas, and even Brazil for a short time. While ranching, farming, and mechanicing were Darrell's passions, Jennie's passion was cooking. She cooked in private schools, for hunters in her home, in restaurants, and for countless family and friends throughout her life. She also served as a Weight Watchers lecturer and drove a roguing bus in the early 1970s. Together, Jennie and Darrell managed large motels and public storage facilities, and later operated a resort in Missouri in their 80s. Jennie always believed in being useful and giving her best in every season of life.

Her final two years were spent at Bethel Home, where she was lovingly known for being "a little feisty." Full of life and love, she cherished conversation and relationships and brought warmth wherever she went. Jennie will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her tireless service, her generous hospitality, and her wonderful cooking that brought so many to the table. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a grandmother whose legacy of faith and service will continue through generations. We thank God for her long life and the abundant life she lived.

She is survived by her children, Chester (BronaWiswell, Edward (Sandra) Wiswell, and Carolyn (Chester) Mayhew; eight grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell Wiswell; sisters, Sadie Frank, Florence Yost, Esther Withers, and Mary Doris; her brothers Paul Frank and Floyd Frank; and two great grandchildren, Charlie Meister and Merrick Paneno.

A Memory Celebration will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Morningside Church Fellowship Hall in Montezuma. The graveside service and burial follow at 3:30PM at Banner Cemetery, south of Sublette with Pastor David Erwin presiding. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Montezuma. Memorial donations may be made to Bethel Home or Christ Church of Haskell County in Sublette in care of the funeral home. Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
