Jerome Marlin Thompson passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on August 4, 2026. Jerome was born on October 31, 1960 in Kansas City, Missouri to Lorraine Thompson, and was the third child of five children.

He married Syble (Sullivan) Thompson the daughter of Lepoleon and Dorothy Sullivan in 1989 in Dodge City, Kansas.

Jerome cherished the time he spent with his family, friends, and loved ones, and he loved his family deeply. He was one of the friendliest people you could ever meet and truly knew no stranger. As one close family friend so beautifully described him, Jerome was a "gentle giant."

With his soulful laugh and heartfelt smile, Jerome could strike up a conversation with anyone, anytime, anywhere. He found joy in working in his yard, taking on DIY projects, and especially in the magic of the Christmas season. He was strong and tough when he needed to be, but he had the softest spot in his heart for his grandchildren, whom he adored and spoiled on "Papa's Thursday Afternoon Adventures" with candies, hugs, and sweet treats. He was constantly busy and always working on projects around the house.

Jerome's peaceful place was in his favorite, well-worn comfy chair in his TV room, where he could relax and enjoy the simple comforts of home. It was in these ordinary moments-with the people and things he loved-that Jerome found some of life's greatest joys.

He is survived by his wife Syble of the home; his children Megan Sullivan-Glanville and husband Joshua of Wichita, KS, Mykael Thompson of Dodge City, KS, A'zlynn Thompson and companion Xavier Collins of Dodge City; cherished grand-daughters A'mari Collins and Xiniyah Collins and grand-sons Azavian Collins and Isaiah Barnes of Dodge City; sisters Nedra Draughn and Michelle Thompson, Kansas City, Missouri. Jerome leaves behind a large extended family, including a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins who were like siblings to him.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lorraine Shockley; his brothers Gary Shockley and Michael Shockley; and his aunt, Margaret Lynn (Tody), who lovingly raised him after his mother's passing.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at Swaim funeral Chapel of Dodge City. Visitation will be on Friday, August 14, 2026 from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 800 PM at Swaim Funeral Chapel. Memorial donations can be made in Jerome's name to the Grandchildren's Education Fund in care of the funeral home.
