DODGE CITY - Jess G. Ontiberos, Sr., 88, died December 28, 2009 at his home in Dodge City. He was born on March 18, 1921 at Cushing, Oklahoma the son of Salvador and Frances (Galicia) Ramirez.
Jess served in the US Army during WWII. He worked for Stewart Plumbing & Heating and after retiring was self employed. Jess was activly involved in Alcoholics Anonymous. He loved to hunt, fish, and trained dogs for trial competitions. On September 3, 1941 he married Mary Sanchez at Dodge City, she survives. They lived all their married lives in Dodge City.
He was a member of the Cathedral of our Lady of Guadalupe, Dodge City.
Jess is survived by his wife, Mary Ontiberos of Dodge City seven sons, Jessie Ontiberos, Jr. and wife Sharon, Frank Ontiberos and wife Sandy, Fred Ontiberos, Johnny Ontiberos and wife Irma, Adam Ontiberos and wife Misty all of Dodge City, George Ontiberos and wife Madeline of Wichita, and Bob Ontiberos of Larned; two daughters, Lucy Briseno and husband Chuck of Dodge City and Rose Mary Maestas and husband Manuel of Colorado Springs, Colorado; two brothers, Alex Ontiberos of Dodge City and Bob Ramirez of Apple Valley, California; six sisters, Frances Blea of Dodge City, Maclovia Gutierres of Dodge City, Rosie Mendoza of Topeka, Clara Gutierres of Wichita, Martha Cruz Mendez of Dodge City, and Vicki Jane Shore of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; 27 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, and eight great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sons, Lupe, Joey, and Anthony; a daughter, Christine; one brother and one sister
Vigil service will be held at the Cathedral Of Our Lady Of Guadalupe on Friday, January 1, 2010 at 7:00 PM and Funeral Mass will be held at the Cathedral Of Our Lady Of Guadalupe on Saturday, January 2, 2010 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Ted Skalsky presiding. Military rites will be conducted at the church by Howard Gotschall Post #1714, V.F.W.. Cremation will follow the funeral mass. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Friday, January 1, 2010 from Noon to 6:00 PM. Memorials can be made to the Leukemia Foundation in care of the funeral home.
