Jessie T. Rodriguez, 79, died October 18, 2011 at Western Plains Medical Complex, Dodge City. She was born on January 26, 1932 in Dodge City, daughter of Jose V. and Sara (Jaso) Torrez.

Jessie was born and raised in the Mexican Village in Dodge City. She attended school in the village until her mother died when Jessie was 13. She quit school to stay at home and help raise her brothers and sisters. Later Jessie worked for the Silver Spur Motel in Dodge City as a housekeeper for 25 years. She married Ezekiel Rodriquez in 1971 in Dodge City. He survives. Jessie loved to cook for her family.

She was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe of Dodge City.

In addition to her husband, Ezekiel Rodriguez, Jessies is survived by 11 brothers and sisters, Carol Torrez, Isabel Kelly, Teresa Mendez, Nellie Trujillo, and Paul Torrez all of Dodge City; LupeTorres, Eleanor Vela, Josephine Moreno, and Margaret Torrez all of Wichita; Delores Torrez of Marble Falls, Texas; and Mike Torrez of LaJunta, Colorado; and many nieces and nephews. She preceded in death by her parents, a son, Joe Montez, and three brothers, Frank, Epimenio, and Pascual Torrez.

Vigil Service will be held at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Dodge City on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be held at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Friday, October 21, 2011 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Ted Skalsky presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Thursday, October 20, 2011 from noon to 5:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to Jessie Rodriguez Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.
