Obituary

Montezuma - My dear Mother, Jewel Wedel Nightingale was born to Arthur and Dena Schmidt Wedel on May 30, 1942 at Fairview, Oklahoma. God took her home early November 11, 2021, reaching the age of 79 years.

She loved life, was a cancer survivor, and fought valiantly to overcome the many health issues that plagued her.

Jewel attended country school in Fairview Oklahoma. She worked in Fairview Hospital and also Mercy Hospital in Moundridge, Kansas.

At the age of 13 she gave her heart to God and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite on February 14, 1955. She married Don Nightingale on April 16, 1967 and they enjoyed life together for 48 years before Daddy passed away in 2015. They had two children; a son, Jay, who was tragically killed in a car accident at nineteen years of age, and a daughter Lori.

We have many special memories of Mom, her love of life, cooking good food, and her love of singing and songs. She enjoyed socials and parties of any kind. She loved her grandchildren, always taking a special interest in each of their lives. Her flowers and yard were special to her, and a pleasant memory for us.

After the loss of her husband, her health took a decided turn for the worse. She faced one disappointment after another, as her dreams faded one by one. Her acceptance of her failing health was an inspiration to us, and she leaves us with a testimony of peace and rest in her heart.

Those left to cherish her memories are her daughter Lori and husband Tim Boese of Vanceboro North Carolina, three grandchildren: Kimbry and husband Joseph Rodriquez of Wingo, Kentucky; Courtney Boese and Brady Boese of Vanceboro North Carolina.; special friends, Max and Rose Koehn of Copeland and Netha Neufeld of Montezuma; one sister: Autherine and husband Ernest Nightingale of Fairview, Oklahoma; three brothers: Clayton and Carol Wedel of Wingo, Kentucky, Dale and Dianne Wedel, and Victor and Emily Wedel all of Fairview, Oklahoma, and many friends and relatives too numerous to mention. Preceding her in death are her husband, one son, her parents, and four sisters and one brother.

Funeral service will be held at Salem Mennonite Church, Copeland on Monday, November 15, 2021 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Salem Mennonite Cemetery.
