Obituary

Dodge City - Jimmie Dean (Jim) Wasson, 81, died December 4, 2017 at Presbyterian Manor of the Plains in Dodge City.  He was born on August 1, 1936 on the family farm north of Dodge City, to Albert and Neva Ruth (Pottorff) Wasson.

He attended the Prairie View Country School which was about a quarter mile from his home, later Dodge City junior high and high school. Jim married Betty Lee Winter on March 8, 1959 at the First Christian Church in Dodge City.  They were married 58 years.  They had three children, Tammi (Mark) Koster of Wichita, Brad (Cari) Wasson of Dodge City, and Sheri (Bill) Turley of Dodge City; seven grandchildren, Brandon, Levi, and Ladd Koster, Tanner (Brittany) Turley, Tegan Turley, Adrienne and Amilee Wasson; and three great grandchildren, Jackson Taylor, Leighton and Jett Turley

Jim was a lifelong farmer and he loved taking his children and grandchildren to feed cattle and see the baby calves.  Jim loved hunting with his son, Brad, sons-in-law, Mark and Bill, grandsons, and friends.  He liked fishing, western movies, and books.  Jim Loved God, his family, and his farming operation. Jim will be missed by many; he was our hero.

He was a member of the First Christian Church of Dodge City, past deacon at the church, and past member of the Dodge City Credit Union.  Jim was a Prairie Schooners 4H member when he was younger and later a crop leader in the club when his children were members of 4-H.

Jim is survived by his wife, Betty, of the home; children; grandchildren; great grandchildren; siblings, Pat (Bob) Hutchison of Hutchinson and Coralea Wasson of Lakewood, Colorado; sisters-in-law, Daisy Wasson of Dodge City and Iva (Cliff) Helms of Derby; brother-in-law, Henry (Jean) Winter; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and friends.  He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Clarence Wasson; father and mother in-law, Ora and Dorothy Winter; and sisters-in-laws, Thelma (Carlton) Adkins and Mary (Jeirld) Hill.

Funeral service will be held at First Christian Church, Dodge City on Friday December 8, 2017 at 10:30 AM with Pastors Dusty Cookson and Richard Crockett presiding.  Burial will follow at Greencrest Cemetery in Dodge City.  Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Dodge City, on Thursday December 7, 2017 from noon to 8:00 PM with the family receiving friends from 5-7 PM.  Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church, Hospice of the Prairie, or the Ford County 4H Foundation in care of the funeral home.  Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
