Cimarron - Joan Payne Jantz, 89, died May 7, 2018 at Brookdale Senior Living in Dodge City.  She was born on November 26, 1928 in Elida, New Mexico the daughter of George and Dorothy "Dot" (Womack) Berry.

Joan graduated from Elida High School in 1945.  She married Robert "Bob" Benton Payne on November 1, 1945 in Roswell, New Mexico.  During their almost 50 years of marriage, they managed various ranches in New Mexico, Colorado, Oklahoma, and Kansas. He preceded her in death.  Bob and Joan also owned and operated nursing homes in Dewey and Muskogee Oklahoma. In Joan's later years, she owned and operated a dress boutique, Different Looks.  Together they raised seven children.  Later, she married Leo Jantz on December 27, 1996 in Cimarron.  They resided in Cimarron until their recent move to Dodge City.

Joan was a member of the Cimarron United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband Leo of Dodge City; children, Don Payne and wife Debbie of Ingalls, Guy Payne and wife Jan of Beaver, Oklahoma, Rex Payne and wife Lorrie of Satanta, Jake Payne and wife Terri of Cimarron, and Lisa Payne Lloyd and husband Mark of Manhattan; son-in-law, Bob Moore of Ulysses; daughter-in-law, Penny Payne of Fairview, Oklahoma; 16 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her first husband, Bob; son, Gary Payne; daughter, Suanne Payne Moore; and grandson, Chris Moore.

Funeral service will be held at Cimarron United Methodist Church on Friday, May 11, 2018 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Mike Keating presiding.  Burial will follow at Cimarron Cemetery.  Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Cimarron on Thursday, May 10, 2018 from 12:00 to 8:00 PM.  Memorials are suggested to Moore Children's Education Fund in care of the funeral home.  Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
