Montezuma – Betty Joan Unruh, 90, died October 23, 2023 at her home in Montezuma. She was born on April 24, 1933 at Dodge City, the daughter of Bill and Ada (Hood) Keith.

Joan moved when she was young to Ft. Dodge and Ft. Dodge was always near and dear to her heart. in 1951 she graduated of Dodge City High School. She worked at Mammal's when she met the love of her life Glenn "Curly" Unruh from Montezuma. They were married on December 15, 1956 at the Ft. Dodge Chapel by Rev. Spencer. Curly preceded her in death on November 4, 2014.

Joan enjoyed different work organizations. She was an Avon lady for many years and gained many friends. She won President's Club several years which she and her family were very proud. In 2019 Joan became a member of the Courtney Spalding Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also a member of the Women of the Moose and the Montezuma United Methodist Church.

Left to cherish her memories are her son, Les Unruh and wife Karen of Dodge City, a daughter, Beverly Unruh of Montezuma; her grandson, Clint Unruh of Dodge City; and several nieces and nephews she treasured dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Jim, William Lewis, Jr "Sonny" and Nobel; three sisters, Josephine Kreger, Laveta Schlereth, and Pauline Taylor.

Funeral service will be held at the Montezuma United Methodist Church on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Kyle Woodrow presiding. Burial will follow at Morningside Cemetery in Montezuma.  Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel of Montezuma on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 from Noon to 8:00 PM with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.  Memorials are suggested to Montezuma Fire and EMS in care of the funeral home.  Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
