DODGE CITY - John Grant Bone, Jr., 79, died Monday, June 15, 2009 at Western Plains Medical Complex, Dodge City. He was born on May 8, 1930 at Halstead the son of life-long Dodge City residents John G. Bone, Sr and Nora Mae Nelson-Bone. Also the grandson of 19th century Dodge City residents James Carl Bone and Frances Dennis-Bone and Nathan A. Nelson and Bertha Rall-Nelson.
John graduated from Dodge City High School in 1949 and married his high school sweetheart Jean I. Holtfrerich on July 7, 1949. He worked for Isley Lumber and TM Deal Lumber both of Dodge City. John managed the TM Deal Lumber of Sublette and was the fuel manager for the Sublette COOP. He was a master wood craftsman and retired farmer.
He was a member of the Church of Christ and IOOF Lodge both of Dodge City.
John is survived by his wife, Jean Bone of Dodge City; son, Brad Bone of Wichita; two daughters, Linda Stewart & husband Ed of Dodge City and Lianna Dobbins and husband Randy of Thomas, Oklahoma; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a younger brother, Bryce Bone.
Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home on Thursday, June 18, 2009 at 10:00 AM with Mr. Kirk Castleman presiding. Burial will follow at Greencrest Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 from Noon to 8:00 PM. Memorials can be made to the Church of Christ in care of the funeral home.
