Garden City - Johnny "John" Ray Bunnell, 75, died October 18, 2023 at Homestead Assisted Living, Garden City.  He was born on December 13, 1947 at Garden City, the son of Harry J. and Evalyn (Schmidt)  Bunnell.

John grew up in Copeland and Ensign and was a 1965 graduate of Ensign High School. He then attended Dodge City Junior College and received his Bachelor Degree in Business Administration from Emporia State University. He served in the Army National Guard in Dodge City in the early 70's. John farmed north of Copeland and later was a case manager at Compass Behavioral Health.

He was an avid trap shooter and won many trophies and awards in competition trap shooting events. He also enjoyed playing cards, dominoes, hunting, and cooking.

John is survived by his companion, Jerri Jackson of Garden City; his special tabby cat, Itty Bitty; sister-in-law, Delores Bunnell of Wamego; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three siblings, Harry Dwain Bunnell, Sr, Nancy Reinert and husband Larry, and Jerry Bunnell and wife Arlene; and nephew, Harry D. Bunnell, Jr

Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Dodge City on Monday, October 23, 2023 at 10:00 AM with Pastor Bob Bates presiding.  Burial will follow at Concord Cemetery in Ford County. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel in Dodge City on Sunday, October 22, 2023 from 1:00 to 5:00 PM with the family present from 1:00 to 3:00 PM.  In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Concord Cemetery Tree Fund in care of the funeral home.  Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
