FT. DODGE - John R. Collins, 67, died April 4, 2018 at the Kansas Soldiers Home, Ft. Dodge.  He was born on December 18, 1950 at Dodge City, the son of Jack E. and Ladine (Schweitzer) Collins.

John was a 1968 graduate of Garden City High School. He then attended Dodge City Vo-Tech where he received his automotive training and later went to Fort Worth, Texas for his Diesel Mechanic Training.  John served in the United States Air Force. He went to work for National Cash Register, where he was a computer technician for 33 years, until his retirement. John loved trap shooting, ham radio, watching movies and listening to music. He especially loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.

John is survived by his five siblings, Virginia Patterson & husband Dale of Garden City, Janine Norton of Rozel, Michael V. Collins of Garden City, Kelly Collins and husband Joe of Rozel, and Marty Dinkel and husband Daryl of Garden City; and to numerous other family members to mention by name. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial service will be held at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery on Thursday April 12, 2018 at 11:00 AM. Military rites will be conducted by the United States Air Force and Howard Gotschall Post #1714, V.F.W.  Memorials are suggested to the Kansas Soldiers Home or Finney County RSVP both in care of the funeral home.  Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
