Obituary

DODGE CITY - John D. Gholson, 87, died Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at Trinity Manor Nursing Home, Dodge City. He was born on June 26, 1922 at Poplar Bluff, Missouri the son of Cary Dow and Martha (Roberts) Gholson.

John served in the US Army Air Corp during WWII where he was a flight instructor and bomber pilot. He later joined the US Air Force reserves where he served 20 years. On August 19, 1949 he married W. Deane Mulkey at Dodge City. He was a weather observer at the National Weather Service in Dodge City from 1948 until his retirment in 2000.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Dodge City.

John is survived by his wife, Deane Gholson of Dodge City; two daughters, Jane Allen and husband Ron of Dodge City and Jennifer Gholson-Morris and husband Dan of Wichita; a sister, Martha Fulks of Springfield, Missouri; three grandchildren, Joel Allen, Julie Tschanz, and Ryan Allen; and four great grandchildren, Ethan, Emma, and Evan Tschanz and Kayla Allen. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Phillip and Cary Gholson.

Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home on Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Dick Robbins presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Friday, March 12, 2010 from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM with the family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Memorials can be made to Hospice of the Prairie or the Ford County Humane Society both in care of the funeral home.
