Obituary

John B. Haviland, 86, died November 14, 2011 at his home in Dodge City. He was born on August 7, 1925 in Kansas City, the son of Holmes and Dorothy (Bodman) Haviland, Sr.

John graduated from Wyandotte High School in Kansas City. He then joined the United States Army during WWII, serving from 1943 until 1946. John married Camilla Klein on September 7, 1957 in Cascade, Colorado. She preceded him in death in 1997. He worked for many years as an underwriter for Cimarron Insurance Company in Cimarron. John was a Dodge City resident for 52 years.

He was a member of the St. Cornelius Episcopal Church, Howard Gotschall Post # 1714, Veterans of Foreign Wars, all of Dodge City, Wyandotte Lodge # 3 AF & AM, Chapter, Council, and Commandary, Midian Schrine, and a lifetime member of the Dodge City Country Club and Prairie Dunes Country Club, Hutchinson.

John is survived by two nieces, Jane Roether and husband Doug of Junction City, and Dorothy Anne Parrish and husband Robert of O'Fallon, Illinois.

Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home in Dodge City on Friday, November 18, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Dennis Zimmerman presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City with military rites by Howard Gotschall Post #1714 V.F.W. There will be no visitation and the casket will remain closed. Friends may sign the register book from 9:00 A.M. til 5:00 P.M. Thursday, November 17, at the funeral home.
