John Kenneth Menzie
Sublette - John Kenneth Menzie, 88, died January 26, 2024 at Satanta Long Term Care Unit. He was born on December 17, 1935 in Copeland, Kansas, the son of Kenneth John and Aletha Lola (Hoskinson) Menzie.
John was born and reared in Copeland and was a graduate of Copeland High School. On February 13, 1955 he was united in marriage to June Berry. He served in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Knob Noster, Missouri. They welcomed their first daughter, Robin in August 1957. After he was discharged, they moved back to Copeland where they welcomed another daughter, Jennifer in July 1958. Shortly thereafter, son, Brad, joined the family in April 1962. In August 1962, they moved to Sublette where they operated the John Deere dealership, Hoskinson Implement.
After their retirement in 1997, they bought a second home in Shell Knob, Missouri. "Pop" enjoyed spending time on the lake pulling his grandchildren on inter-tubes and just cruising the lake in his boat.
John is survived by his son, Brad Menzie and wife Joan of Sublette; 5 grandchildren, Katlyn and husband Jeremy Robinson and their children, Kolten, Jaylee, Kenzie, and Jentry of Newton; Kacie and husband Omar Galaviz and their children, Sofia, Isabella and Olivia of Maize; Brennen and husband Sam Marlin and their daughter, Siobhan of Kansas City; Bradon Menzie and Ian Menzie also of Kansas City. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, June Menzie; two daughters, Jennifer Menzie and Robin Grimes; son-in-law, Mark Grimes; and sister, Virginia Tyler of Sublette.
Funeral service will be held at the Copeland United Methodist Church on Friday, February 2, 2024 at 10:30 AM with Pastor Doug Harris presiding. Burial will follow at Copeland Cemetery. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Sublette on Thursday, February 1, 2024 from noon to 8:00 PM with the family present from 6:30 to 8:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to the Satanta Long Term Care, Pride of Life of Sublette (senior center), or Copeland Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
