John Ney, 73, of Dodge City, Kansas, passed away on May 4, 2026, in Phoenix, Arizona. He was born on August 12, 1952, in Larned, Kansas, to Joseph and Pearl (Cure) Ney.
On July 28, 1973, John married the love of his life, Roberta Sandoval, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Dodge City. Together they built a life grounded in faith, family, and the steady rhythm of the farm. Known for his quick wit, John never let a day pass without offering a joke or a warm smile to brighten someone’s day.
The family farm shaped John from an early age. After earning his Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from Kansas State University, he dedicated his life to agriculture as a farmer, cattleman, and trusted beef nutritionist. He owned and operated his own beef nutrition consulting business, Nutrition Solutions, for 25 years. His knowledge and integrity made him a respected figure in the agricultural community.
John was deeply committed to service. He was an Eagle Scout, a member of the Kansas Cattlemen’s Association Board, served 16 years on the Hanston School Board, contributed to the Hodgeman County Economic Development Board, served on the Board of Directors for Burkhart Meat Processing LLC, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also an active member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
He loved attending K-State football games and hosting the Ney Brothers Tailgate, a tradition filled with laughter, his famous steak fingers, and the company of family and friends. He also cherished time spent with his grandchildren, especially on the family farm where he shared his love of the land.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Pearl Ney.
John shared an extraordinary bond with his seven siblings, a closeness they proudly called “The Great 8.” John’s love for them, and theirs for him, was one of the great blessings of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Roberta Jean (Sandoval) Ney of Dodge City; his children, Benjamin Ney of Dodge City, Brian Ney (Meredith) of Olathe, Kansas, Carrie Torres (Isac) of Lewisville, Texas, and Julie Mazouch (Chris) of Great Bend, Kansas; and his ten grandchildren, Addie Ney, Lexie Ney, Avery Ney, Audrey Ney, Isabela Torres, Ethan Torres, Josue Torres, Noah Torres, Mark Mazouch, and Blake Mazouch.
He is also survived by his siblings, Cecilia Amend (Richard) of Yukon, Oklahoma; Connie Ragsdale of Yukon, Oklahoma; Cathy Strecker of Wichita, Kansas; Joe Ney (Marie) of Manhattan, Kansas; James Ney (Mary) of Lenexa, Kansas; Cynthia Berry (Jim) of Olathe, Kansas; and Jerry Ney (Lisa) of Manhattan, Kansas.
Visitation will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Friday, May 22, 2026 from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM. A Vigil Service will be held at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church on Friday, May 22, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., at the same location, with burial immediately following at Maple Grove Cemetery.
