Dodge City - John R. Powell, 87, died November 8, 2022 at his home in Dodge City.  He was born on April 6, 1935 at Ingersoll, Oklahoma the son of Grover and Minnie (Maloney) Powell.

He proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1958 aboard the USS Roanoke. He married Sue Alexander on February 17, 1990 in Dodge City, she survives. Mr. Powell worked for the US Postal Service in Dodge City for 35 years before retiring in 2003. He loved spending time with his family and friends whenever he had a chance. Mr. Powell had a love for airplanes and would go flying in his own plane in his spare time.

He was a member of the Church of Christ, American Legion and Howard Gotschall V.F.W. Post #1714 all of Dodge City.

He is survived by his wife Sue of the home; his children Janette Powell; Mike Adcock and wife Tina; John Powell who passed away in 2012; Lorie Gottschalk and husband Ken; Wayne Carter and wife Shay; Marti Krisle; as well as 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren and one great grandson due in December. He is also survived by two brothers Ray Powell and Junior Powell.

He was preceded in death by his parents one son John Powell, one sister Irene and three brothers Jim, Paul and Bill.

Memorial service will be held at Church of Christ on Saturday November 12, 2022 at 10:00 AM with Gary L. Bennett presiding. There will be no visitation as cremation has take place.
