JOHNNY R. FLOWERS
DODGE CITY - Johnny R. Flowers, 83, died Friday, January 22, 2010 at his home in Dodge City, KS. He was born on February 10, 1926 at Coldwater, the son of Milow and Anna Fern (Good) Flowers.
Mr. Flowers moved to Cimarron with his family at the age of three. He attended schools there and was a graduate of Cimarron High School.He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during WWII. He attended Wichita State University. He married Erlene Addison in 1950 at Cimarron. She survives. He was previously employed as a surveyor with Winfrey Engineering of Goddard, and until recently with E.B.H. Engineering of Great Bend in the same compacity. He was an avid Kansas University sports fan, and enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, and golf.
Survivors include his wife, Erlene Flowers of Dodge City, two sons Ricky Flowers and wife Diane of Fayetteville, North Carolina; Randy Flowers and wife Paula of Portland, Texas; three daughters, Rhonda Weil and husband Peter of Dodge City, Robin Underwood and husband Greg of Ensign, Renee Gillum and husband Danny of Dodge City, and one sister, Hazel Brown of Springfield, Colorado. Also surviving are fourteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Swaim Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Dennis Zimmerman presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City, with military rites provided by the Howard Gotschall Post # 1714, V.F.W., Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Monday, January 25, 2010 from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Memorials can be made to Friends of the Zoo or Donors's choice in care of the funeral home.
