Dodge City - Joseph Davidson Braley, 93, died April 2, 2018 at Kansas Veterans Home at Ft. Dodge.  He was born on August 7, 1924 at St. Louis, Missouri the son of Joseph D. Braley and Grace M. (Guliford) Braley.

He married Carrie Booker on July 31, 1953 in Great Bend, she preceded him in death on June 14, 2004. Mr. Braley  proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Marine Corp. He worked for the US Postal service for many years before retiring. Mr. Braley loved to work Bingo at the VFW Post as well as play bingo in his spare time. He was a man who could fix anything that was broken and was an excellent welder.

He was a member of the Howard Gotschall V.F.W. Post #1714, US Postal Workers Union, Dodge City Lions Club, Scout Master for Boy Scouts of America and president of the NAACP Dodge City Chapter.

He is survived by one daughter Triena Phifer of Tulsa, Oklahoma; five sons Daryl Autry of Haslet, Texas; Ken Braley of Garden City; Mike Braley of Chantilly, Virginia; Gordon Braley of Kansas City, Missouri and Craig Braley of Dodge City. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents one daughter Pauletta Elliott; one son Dwight Braley; three brothers and six sisters.

Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Saturday April 7, 2018 at 10:00 AM with Pastor Sue Nichols and Dr. Shawn Fletcher presiding.  Burial with full military honors will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City.  Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Friday, April 6, 2018 from 12:00 to 8:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to Ft. Dodge Kansas Veterans Home Activity Fund  in care of the funeral home.
