Joyce S. Day, 78, died Saturday, March 7, 2009 at her residence at Dodge City. She was born on July 10, 1930 at Garnett, Kansas the daughter of Sargent and Irene C. Salsbury.
She grew up in Garnett and Lawrence and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1948. Joyce came to Dodge City in August of 1960. In 1961 she married Fred H. Day in Dodge City. He survives. Mrs. Day received her Bachelors of Arts in music from St. Mary of The Plains College of Dodge City and utilized her talent by teaching music and piano from her home for many years. Her love of writing led her to have poetry and fiction published along with a published preschool music curriculum and Little Peoples Music Curriculum which she utilized from her home. Mrs. Day's life was all about her husband, family, church and teaching music.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Church Choir, a past Board of Director of Dodge City Community Concert Association, Piano Teachers League, and His Writers all of Dodge City, and Kansas Authors Club.

Survivors include her husband Fred H. Day of Dodge City; four sons, Tom Day and wife Robbye of Little Canada, Minnesota, Larry Day of Hutchinson, Burk Day and fiance Tina Gunnels of Ozark, Missouri, and Jeff Day and wife Melissa of Wichita; one daughter, Lynn Roenfeldt and husband Rick of Dodge City; and one brother, Barry Salsbury and wife Marguerite of Larkspur, Colorado. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Memorial service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Lance Carrithers presiding. Cremation has taken place and friends may sign the register book at the funeral home from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. on Friday, March 13th.
