Obituary

Joyce (Stanley) James, 84, died Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at Trinity Manor Nursing Home in Dodge City. She was born on January 27, 1925 in Dighton, the daughter of John Neal and Esther (Hyames) Stanley.

Joyce was raised in Dighton and graduated from Dighton High School. On July 3, 1946, she married Robin K. (Bob) James in Dighton. They moved to Dodge City in 1946 and operated The Jame's Confectionary across from the High School for two years. Joyce later went to work for May Drug and then for Brewer Pharmacy. She was a care giver all of her life and was loved by many nieces and nephews.

She was a member of First Christian Church of Dodge City where she taught Sunday School for 40 years.

Joyce is survived by three brothers, Max Stanley and wife Ellen May of Dighton, Dwight Stanley and wife Helen of Dighton, and Rex Stanley and wife Frances of Dodge City; one sister-in-law, Pat Stanley of Dodge City; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob and one brother, Jack Stanley.

Funeral service will be held at First Christian Church of Dodge City on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at 10:30 AM with Mr. Phil Scott presiding. Burial will follow at Greencrest Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City, on Friday, May 15, 2009 from noon to 8:00 PM. Memorials can be made to First Christian Church in care of the funeral home.
