Obituary

Satanta - Johnnie Trevor (JT) Coates, 18, died November 26, 2020 in rural Haskell County due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.  He was born on September 7, 2002  Garden City, Kansas the son of Kenyon Coates and Michelle Hammer.

JT spent his early childhood in Satanta and later in Holcomb, attending schools in both towns.  He loved to be on the farm.  JT was currently working as a custom harvester for JDK Harvesting out of Colby.  They traveled from Canada to Texas during harvest seasons.  JT enjoyed hunting, fishing, and target shooting with his grandpa.  From the time he was born, JT was always on the go, earning the nickname "Hotrod" from his dad.  JT never knew a stranger.  He had a gift of making friends.  The most important thing in JT's life was his love for his family.  He called his parents daily, spent time with his siblings, and enjoyed playing with his nieces and nephews. His laughter and smile will not be forgotten.

JT is survived by his mother, Michelle Hammer and husband John Whitehead of Satanta; his father, Kenyon Coates and wife Shellie Becker  of Holcomb; siblings, Katie Koch (Peter Jones) of Wichita, Colton Koch (Kristen) of Mankato, Nicole Coates of Manhattan, Chris Whitehead (Megan) of Kansas City, Missouri, Codey Whitehead (Paige) of Joplin, Missouri, and Isaiah Whitehead of Joplin, Missouri; grandparents, Chris and Ruth Hammer of Sublette; many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews; and too many friends to count.  He is preceded in death by grandparents, Betty Mast and Leonard Coates; great grandparents, Fred and Marge Wachs, Robert and Betty Hammer, Johnny and Lucille Hallmark, and Nellie Coates.
