Ingalls - Judy Harris, 61, died June 1, 2023 at the Shepherd's Center in Cimarron. She was born on April 14, 1962 in McPherson, the daughter of Leonard and Lois (Hufferd) Miller.
Judy's childhood home was in McPherson. She attended St. Joseph Catholic School through the eighth grade and then went on to attend McPherson High School, graduating in 1980. Following her high school graduation, Judy attended St. Mary of the Plains College in Dodge City, where she played basketball and tennis. While at St. Mary's, Judy met Mitchel Harris. The two were united in marriage on June 5, 1982 and made their home in Dodge City while Judy completed her degree in English Education.
Following graduation, Judy worked for Key Office in Dodge City. She then accepted a position at USD 477 in Ingalls to teach high school English and junior high physical education and the couple moved to Ingalls. Judy also was head junior high volleyball, track and high school basketball coach as well as assistant coach for junior high basketball. She served USD 477 for 31 years before retiring.
Judy enjoyed fishing, golfing, photography and painting small artwork. She played slow pitch softball for a number of years on the Bud Light team. Judy loved animals. Her dog, Max, was often by her side during her recent illness. Spending time with her family and friends was also one of her great joys.
Judy is survived by her husband, Mitch of Ingalls; six siblings, Leonard (Lenny) Miller, Jr. (Sharyl) of McPherson, Mary Beavers (David) of Republican City, Nebraska, Ronald Miller (Colleen) of Marquette, Kevin Miller (Sue) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Susan Miller (Carol Thebeau) of San Marcos, California, and Lisa Willett (Kevin) of Hot Springs, Arkansas; sister-in-law, Marcie Charles (Marc) of Dodge City; brother-in-law, Mark Applegate of Montezuma; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Larry Miller and Mark Miller; parents-in-law, David and Mary Lee Harris; sister-in-law, Mindy Applegate, and two nieces, Christine Miller and Megan Kramer.
Memorial service will be held at Ingalls High School Gym on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at 10:30 AM with Mr. Jeff Hiers presiding. The family will greet friends during a book signing at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Cimarron on Friday, June 16, 2023 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to USD 477 Ingalls School Library or the Judy Harris Memorial Scholarship in care of Swaim Funeral Chapel.
