Obituary
Sublette - Katherine "Kay" Kelman, 86, died October 19, 2013 at her home in Sublette. She was born on February 13, 1927 in Liberal, the daughter of Harry and Emma (Smith) Fuller.
Kay was born on the Fuller family farm in rural Seward County. She attended school in Liberal, graduating from Liberal High School in 1944. On December 25, 1949, she married John "Jack" Kelman in Liberal. He preceded her in death on May 4, 1999. Before her marriage, Kay worked for the Civil Service at the Liberal Army Air Base and later at the Goodfellow Air Base in San Angelo, Texas. She also worked for Tradewind Industry in Liberal. After her marriage, Kay stayed at home to raise her family. She was an avid painter and enjoyed gardening. Kay was very active in the Methodist Church, helping with the thrift shop, VBS, and church dinners. She also served as a project leader in 4-H.
Mrs. Kelman was a member of the Sublette Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and the MSM bridge club.
Kay is survived by two sons, Steve Kelman and wife Kathy of Overland Park and Roger Kelman and wife Jill of Sublette; one daughter, Beverly Kelman of Santa Fe, New Mexico; one sister, Carol Plummer and husband John of Alva, Oklahoma; one sister-in-law, Bernice Holloway of Sublette; four grandchildren, David Kelman, Hilary Kelman, Clark Kelman, and Hayes Kelman; and two great granddaughters, Ashton Baker and Laila Kelman. In addition to her husband Jack, Kay is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Sylvia Helfrecht and Joyce Dishon; one brother, Wendell Fuller; two nieces; and one nephew.
Funeral service will be held at Sublette United Methodist Church on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Kent Scott and Dr. Mark Hawk presiding. Burial following at Haskell County Cemetery, Sublette. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Sublette on Monday, October 21, 2013 from noon to 8:00 PM.
