IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kathern Yvonne
Decker
February 12, 1933 – November 23, 2024
Montezuma - Our mother, Kathern Yvonne Decker was born to Charles and Kathern (Smith) Truckey on February 12, 1933. She peacefully passed away November 23, 2024, with her family gathered around her bedside, reaching the age of 91 years.
Mom was born in Francisco, Indiana, and although we were not privileged to learn to know her people, she spoke of happy childhood years. Through a series of events, she ended up in San Franciso where she met our dad, who was serving in the Navy. They were married on October 25, 1962. They started their married life in a Quonset hut on Hunters Point Naval Shipyard in California. Although their furnishings were meager, they were very happy there. The love they shared only grew in the 62 years they spent together. We four children were privileged to call her Mother.
Mom and Dad moved to Louisiana in 1965. Dad's cousins would invite them over for meals, and they spent many times in a Christian home
environment. Mom was attracted to the peace of these homes. At a revival in 1968, both mom and dad gave their hearts to the Lord and were
baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite on December 20, 1970, by Minister Chester Johnson. Although the connections to her
biological family were few, God blessed her richly with a spiritual family. She remained faithful to her vows to the end.
Mom was a contented, accepting person who loved everyone. She was endowed with the "gift of helps." (1 Cor 12:28) After giving herself
wholeheartedly to us children, she opened her heart to her grandchildren. She lived for the summers when several would come to stay with them.
In 1996, Folks moved to Cole Camp, MO, joining a church family they loved, that loved them. She happily took care of her mother-in-law for two
years during this time. Mom loved to grow flowers. Dad couldn't understand why you'd grow flowers since you can't eat them, but she
tenaciously planted on.
By 2013, Folks had an eye towards their retirement years and moved to Kansas to be near her girls. Once again, she opened her heart to her new community and loved the congregation.
She is survived by her husband Willard; two daughters, Rita, and husband Scott Schultz, Cimarron, KS; Mary and husband David Ensz, Montezuma, KS; two sons, Douglas and wife Lisa, DeRidder, LA and Jeffery and wife LaDonna, Burkeville, TX; a special nephew Michael & Janet and their three children; sixteen grandchildren; and forty-nine great grandchildren; four brothers-in-law: Allen Decker, Brazoria, TX; Joe and wife Rosemary Decker, Detroit, TX; Kenneth and wife Tonya Decker, Forest Grove, OR; Jeremiah and wife Tracy, Merced, CA; three sisters-in-law; Marilyn Chinot, Mariposa, CA; Susan Decker, Turlock, CA; and Julie and husband Danny Mazelin, Cole Camp, MO. She is predeceased by her parents, her parents-in-law, a brother and sister, three brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law, and a grandson, Dustin.
