Cimarron – Kathy J. Winkler, 71, died October 24, 2021 at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City. She was born on May 24, 1950 at Liberal, Kansas the daughter of Harry and Opal (Hicks) Heape.
Kathy married John Winkler on October 24, 1969 in Satanta, he survives. Mrs. Winkler was a very active blood donor to the American Red Cross donating for over 21 years. She worked at the Presto in Cimarron many years ago and later worked for Whites IGA of Cimarron. Kathy then went to work for Wal-Mart where she worked the last 21 years before retiring. She was also a girl scout leader from 1978 to 1990.
Kathy is survived by her husband John of the home; two daughters Vicki Moore and husband Charley of El Dorado; Tammy Barker and companion Dennis of Cimarron; one sister Phyllis Schmidt and husband Lloyd of Ingalls; one brother Mike Heape of Phoenix, Arizona. She is also survived by four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Larry Heape.
Memorial service will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel in Dodge City on Monday, November 1, 2021 at 10:00 AM with Mr. Dave Froese presiding. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorials are suggested to Kathy Winkler Memorial Fund or to the Shepherd Center of Cimarron in care of the funeral home.
