Obituary

Dodge City - Kenneth G. Hink, 84, died February 3, 2012 at Manor Of The Plains, in Dodge City . He was born on December 7, 1927 on the homestead of his great grandparents south east of Ensign in rural Ford County, the son of and George and Gwendolyn (Hartshorn) Hink.

He was raised there along with a sister, Mathalee, who was born in April 1930. Mr. Hink graduated from Ensign High School and went on to and graduated from Kansas State University in 1949 with a electrical engineering degree. He went to work for Boeing Aircraft Company in Wichita after graduating from Kansas State University. He married Lila Browning, and to this union they had two children a son Fred G. Hink born in 1952 and a daughter Karen L. Moninger in 1956. Mr. Hink served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After his military service he went back to work for Boeing Aircraft Company in Wichita and later transferred to the Boeing Seattle, Washington plant. Ken later married Mary Joan Watts on June 11, 1970 in Winfield, Kansas, she survives. After there marriage they settled on the farm he owned adjacent to his parents farm. He loved nature and especially trees and the farm fulfilled that need along with crops and cattle. After a heart attack in 1973, he continued farming with his sons help, taking over all the Hink land at the time of his fathers death. A major stroke took his walking and they moved to Dodge City, which left him only managing his farm with hired help. Ken was a quiet, soft spoken man, who with his wife Jo, went many places in a wheelchair and always carried Werthers Candy in his shirt pocket, giving them to everyone he greeted saying "Hello" or "Thank You". He was known to many as the "candy man".

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.

He was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Dodge City.

He is survived by his wife Mary Jo Hink of the home, one daughter Karen Moninger of Kansas City, MO; one son Fred Hink of Moab,Utah; a step daughter Jan Eckles of Dodge City; and one step son Jon Watts, Marysville, Washington. Mr. Hink is also survived by two grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Randall Jahnke presiding. Burial will follow at Greencrest Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 from Noon to 8:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to Ford County Humane Society or Donor's Choice in care of the funeral home.
