Obituary
SUBLETTE - Kenneth J. "Ken" Martin, 69, died August 14, 2014 at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita. He was born on February 20, 1945 in Fairview, Oklahoma the son of Cecil A. and Alpha M. (Seifried) Martin.
On February 20, 1965, he married Karen K. Hesser in Copeland. She survives. Ken was a heavy equipment operator for the State of Kansas Highway Department. He also enjoyed a career in sales. Ken enjoyed woodworking and recently completed a project of making wooden football wall plaques for his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed golf and worked for a period of time mowing at Sandcreek Station golf course in Newton. Ken was proud of his yard and liked to spend time doing yard improvements including recently completing a new front yard patio. You could often find Ken with his buddies enjoying coffee at Cutis C's restaurant in Newton where he made fast friends with the staff. Prior to his move to Newton, Ken lived in Sublette where he worked as a volunteer fireman and EMT for the Sublette Fire Department. Of all of Ken's activities, he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather first and always enjoyed time he spent with his family.
He was a member of the Sublette Southern Baptist Church.
Ken is survived by his wife Karen of Newton; two daughters, Shelly R. Tritt and husband Mike and Shelia R Martin all of Newton; two brothers, Bobby Gene Martin and wife Connie of Bakersfield, California and LeRoy "Butch" Martin and wife Annette of Harrah, Oklahoma; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Rob Roberts and Barb Roberts both of Mullinville; nine grandchildren, Nick, Jennifer, Nichole, Jacob, Laci, Sarah, Courtney, Chris, and Stephanie; three grandchildren-in-law; and 10 great grandchildren, Jaylee, Dakota, Braxton, Jaxson, Laylynn, Collin, Koda, Cayden, Parker, and DallasHe is preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service will be held at Sublette Southern Baptist Church on Monday, August 18, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Jerry Smith presiding. Burial will follow at Copeland Cemetery in Copeland. Memorials are suggested to Sublette Southern Baptist Church or to Faith Baptist Church of Andover in care of Swaim Funeral Chapel - P.O. Box 607 - Sublette, KS 67877.
