Dodge City - Kenneth Lee Koehn, 87, died May 6, 2021 at Trinity Manor in Dodge City. He was born on May 27, 1933 in Moundridge, the son of Cornelius H. and Lena (Becker) Koehn.
Kenneth spent his early childhood in the Moundridge and Halstead areas, where he also attended school. As a teen, his family moved to Montezuma. It was there that he met Laura Smith. The two were united in marriage on December 27, 1953 in Cimarron. After their marriage, Laura remained in Montezuma while Kenneth finished basic training in the United States Army in Colorado. The couple then moved to Wisconsin where Kenneth completed his military orders. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Kenneth and Laura returned to Dodge City. He owned and operated his own carpentry business, specializing in finish work and the building of cabinets. He retired from construction in 2005. After retirement, Kenneth enjoyed spending more time in his yard and cultivating many rose bushes. He also loved spending time with his daughters and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Laura of Dodge City; four daughters, Sharon Preston and husband Cliff of Dodge City, Brenda Perkins and husband Rod of Kansas City, Missouri, Rhonda Koehn of Dodge City, and Jolyn Allen of McKinney, Texas; four grandchildren, Amber Taylor, Tyler Perkins, Josh Allen, and Zach Allen; three great grandchildren, Nora, Weston, and Evelyn; two brothers, Floyd and Clayton Koehn; and two sisters, Delores Koehn and Margery Giesbrecht. Kenneth is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Marvin, Arthur, and Melvin Koehn; and two sisters, Katherine Unruh and Betty Brown.
Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel in Dodge City on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at Montezuma Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Dodge City on Monday, May 10, 2021 from noon to 8:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association in care of the funeral home.
