Montezuma - Kevin J. Reed, 64, died September 21, 2024 at St. Catherine's Hospital in Dodge City.  He was born on March 4, 1960 in Bucklin, the son of Albert R. and Dorothy (Cossell) Reed.

Kevin spent his childhood in Bucklin, where he attended school.  He was a graduate of Bucklin High School, class of 1978.  Kevin was a standout athlete in basketball, football, and track.  Following high school, Kevin attended Fort Hays State University for a short time.

He returned to southwest Kansas and began farming near Mullinville on his grandparent's farm.  Kevin had a love of farming and had many good friends and neighbors in the area.  In 2019, illness forced him to leave the farm and he then moved to Montezuma.

Kevin loved following his nieces and nephews in all of their activities and sports thru the years. Later on, he followed their kids, attending t-ball, baseball, volleyball, basketball, football, and track meets all around the state.  He was truly a beloved uncle and great uncle. Kevin loved people and made friends easily.  He will be missed greatly.

Kevin is survived by three brothers, Jeff Reed of Montezuma, Michael Reed and wife Heather of Leawood, and Dave Reed and wife Katie of Lawrence; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Vicki Reed; and nephew, Sean Reed.

Graveside service will be held at Morningside Cemetery on Friday, September 27, 2024 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Tim Erickson presiding.  Memorials are suggested to Gray County EMS in care of Swaim Funeral Chapel – PO Box 421 – Montezuma, Kansas 67867.
