Obituary

MONTEZUMA- Kurt Leon Krey passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Friday, March 9th, 2018 at his home in Tennessee surrounded by loved ones and his loving wife of over 40 years, Henrietta Krey. Kurt was born December 19th, 1945 in Garden City, Kansas to his parents Ernest and Nola Krey and grew up on a farm near Montezuma, Kansas where he spent most of his younger life.

Kurt graduated from Montezuma High School in the class of 1963 and then attended college at the University of Kansas where he earned his bachelor's degree. While attending the University of Kansas, Kurt committed his life to Jesus Christ after becoming involved in the university's Campus Crusade for Christ ministry, a decision from which he never wavered.

Upon graduation, Kurt entered the field of education where he taught math and science for several years before going on to earn his master's degree in mathematics from the University of Illinois. It was during this time that Kurt felt that God was calling him into the mission field and he joined Avant Ministries Gospel Missionary Alliance where he was sent to serve as a high school math and physical science teacher at the Alliance Academy in Quito, Ecuador.

During his tenure in Ecuador, Kurt met fellow teacher, Henrietta Moser, and they were married in 1977. After teaching in Ecuador for two more years, Kurt and Henrietta moved back to Montezuma, Kansas where Kurt managed his father's store, Montezuma Lumber and Hardware, for five years during which time he was blessed with his daughter, Karin. After feeling the desire to return to education, Kurt and family moved to Rock Hill, South Carolina where he taught high school math at Trinity Christian Academy for several years before moving to Boone, North Carolina where he taught college mathematics at Appalachian State University for over eight years.

Kurt and family later moved back to Montezuma, Kansas to again manage his father's hardware store for several years before moving to York, South Carolina where he worked again in education and then worked for Walmart for 10 years. Kurt and Henrietta eventually moved to Ooltewah, Tennessee to live with their daughter Karin and son in law Jason, during which time Kurt was blessed with his two grandsons, Lucas and Josiah, and where he spent the last years of his life with his family.

Kurt was preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Nola Krey, his sister Gailyn Godwin, and his brother Duane Krey. Kurt is survived by his wife Henrietta, daughter Karin, son in law Jason Maucere, granddaughter Camryn Maucere, grandsons Lucas and Josiah Maucere, brother in law Robert Godwin, sister in law Sandy Krey, nephews Lloyd Godwin, Brady Krey, and Justin Krey, and Henrietta's family. Kurt's family ask that you give a donation to Samaritan's Purse or Mission Aviation Fellowship in lieu of flowers. "By faith, Kurt." Hebrews 11.
