Copeland - Larry Birney, 81, died January 19, 2020 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.  He was born on July 1, 1938 in Liberal, the son of Claude D. and Mildred E. (Farris) Birney.

Larry attended school in Sublette, graduating from Sublette High School in 1956.  On June 7, 1969, he married Doris Feuers in Copeland.  She survives.  Larry and Doris made their home in Sublette where they raised their daughters.  He farmed in the Sublette area for many years.  Larry later worked for Cattle Empire.  Larry and Doris then moved to Copeland.  He had a love for all sports, especially KU basketball and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Larry is survived by his wife Doris of Copeland; three daughters, Jo Birney of Copeland; Teresa Atwood and husband Chris of Goodland; and Thaendra Christenson of Tennessee; two brothers, Michael Birney of Dodge City and Neil Birney of Anderson, South Carolina; four grandchildren, Kayla Birney, Michael Birney, Adrian Birney, and Rachel Montoya; and one great granddaughter, Nataly Bejaranl.  He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Walter Birney and Robert Birney; and one sister, Claudette Zimmerman.

Memorial service will be held at Sublette Christian Church on Friday January 31, 2020 at 11:00 AM with Pastors Mickey Birney and Brandon Mildren presiding.  There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place.
