Obituary

Cimarron – Larry Gene Neuschafer, Sr, 79, died October 31, 2024 at St. Catherine's Hospital in Dodge City, Kansas. He was born on January 18, 1945 in Ellsworth, Kansas, the son of John and Dorothy (Schneider) Neuschafer.

Larry graduated from Holyrood High School in 1963. He married Joetta Thomas on August 12, 1967 at the First Christian Church in Cimarron, she survives. Larry proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1968-1971 as a Staff Sergeant. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and traveling in his spare time. Larry was a huge K-State football fan and was a season ticket holder for more than thirty years. He loved to grill for community events and family and was known as "Big Dad the Grill Master". Larry loved grilling so much that he developed and started selling his own seasoning blends for more than 35 years. Larry, along with Joetta, loved to attend their grandchildren's activities and sporting events, as well as leading Grand Marches at weddings. He enjoyed learning to pilot his Cessna and fly whenever he had time. Larry loved anything John Deere and farming, and loved going to all the Cimarron Blue Jays sporting events, He also loved muscle cars, especially his red 1966 GTO.

Larry was a member of the First Christian Church of Cimarron, Cimarron Rotary Club, Cimarron Gun Club, K-State Alumni Association, and was a Lifetime Member of the Cimarron V.F.W. In addition, Larry served as a City Council Member, as well as on the ASCS Board.

He is survived by his wife Joetta of the home; two sons Larry Neuschafer, Jr. and wife Charlotte of Cimarron; Chuck Neuschafer and wife Audrey of Andover, Kansas; and one brother Darrel Neuschafer and wife Carol of Kimberling City, Missouri. He is also survived by his eight loving grandchildren Ashley Ledford and husband Jacob, Dylan Neuschafer, Joshua Neuschafer, Annie Neuschafer, Alex Neuschafer and fiancé Megan Cornelsen, Kaleb Neuschafer and wife Hannah, Blake Neuschafer and wife Mady, and Emma Neuschafer. In addition, Larry is survived by four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial service will be held at Cimarron First Christian Church on Saturday November 9, 2024at 10:00 AM with Mr. Kyle Lawson and Mr. David Johnson presiding. Inurnment will follow at Cimarron Cemetery in Cimarron with full military honors provided by Southwest Kansas Military Honors Program and McConnell AFB Honors Program. There will be a book signing on Friday, November 8 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and the family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Swaim Funeral Chapel in Cimarron.
