Dodge City - Laura Louise Koehn, 90, died January 17, 2025 at Trinity Manor in Dodge City. She was born on October 5, 1934 in Montezuma, the daughter of Andrew and Edna (Koehn) Smith.
When Laura was a young child, she moved to Cimarron with her family. It was there that she completed her education in the Cimarron school system. On December 27, 1953, she was united in marriage with Kenneth Lee Koehn.
After their marriage, Laura returned to Montezuma while Kenneth finished his military basic training. The couple moved to Wisconsin for Kenneth to complete his commitment to the United States Army. After her husband's discharge, the couple moved to Dodge City. It was there that they began their family and raised four wonderful daughters.
Laura mostly stayed at home, caring for her family. She worked at various restaurants as a waitress until her daughters were older. In the early 1990's, Laura became the director of the Manna House in Dodge City, where she was in charge of the daily operation of the shelter and food bank.
After her retirement, Laura enjoyed baking pies for various events and venues. She also enjoyed working in her flower garden which she took great pride in. She and Kenneth enjoyed sitting on their front porch enjoying the weather during the spring and summer. They also loved traveling together to the mountains of Colorado. Laura loved her family and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her love for them showed on her face whenever they were around.
Laura is survived by four daughters, Sharon Preston and husband Cliff of Dodge City, Brenda Perkins and husband Rod of Kansas City, Missouri, Rhonda Koehn of Dodge City, and Jolyn Allen of McKinney, Texas; four grandchildren, Amber Taylor, Tyler Perkins, Josh Allen, and Zach Allen; and five great grandchildren, Nora, Weston, Evelyn, June, and Micah. She is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth and one sister, Lilly Schultz.
Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Dodge City, on Friday, January 24, 2025 at 10:30 AM with Minister Dusty Cookson presiding. Burial will follow at Montezuma Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Thursday, January 23, 2025 from noon to 8:00PM with the family present from 5-7 PM. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Manor in care of the funeral home.
