Montezuma - LaVeda Schmidt, 87, died December 20, 2020 at Bethel Home in Montezuma. She was born on August 2, 1933 in McPherson County near Galva, the daughter of Oren and Hulda (Koehn) Koehn.

LaVeda attended school at the Spring Valley Country Rural School near Canton. On November 23, 1952, she was united in marriage to Willard Schmidt. To this union, three sons were born. The couple made their home in Montezuma. LaVeda worked at various departments in Bethel Home for nearly 25 years. She enjoyed taking care of her flower gardens, watching the birds, and feeding the squirrels at their home. LaVeda was a loving wife and mother who took pride in taking care of her home and family.

She was a member of the Montezuma Mennonite Church.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband Willard of Montezuma; three sons, Dale D. Schmidt and wife Carla of Rich Hill, Missouri; Lonnie W. Schmidt and wife Twila of Delta, Colorado; and Ancel K. Schmidt and wife Ruth of Bonners Ferry, Idaho; a brother, Milton Koehn and wife Myrtle of Fredonia; 10 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and an infant great grandson.

Funeral service will be held at Montezuma Mennonite Church on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at 2:30 PM. Burial will follow at Montezuma Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Montezuma on Monday, December 21, 2020 from noon to 8:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to Bethel Home in care of the funeral home.
